Procession of the Species

What a glorious taste of summer!! Saturday temperatures nearly broke 70 degrees and the sun was shining brilliantly. Considering up until this point April had not even seen temperatures in the 60's. We had been waiting patiently and it paid off! Luckily this beautiful day coincided with the Procession of the Species- a parade put on annually celebrating all "species". The parade is always on a Saturday nearest Earth Day. Being my first Procession I really didn't know what to expect. It blew me away the creativity, beauty and talent showcased.

Before the parade started we took a walk down to Capital Lake to soak up some rays and snap some shots- proof of the weather! We were pinching ourselves.

Charming Makenna.

And so it begins...

Our friends and Makenna's swim instructor, Heidi and her sons Laine & Brody, the blue segment of the caterpillar.

Brody- Makenna's future husband :)

The Procession was filled with characters that's for sure. The mermaid in the photo above had us all in stitches as she was fondling her "shells" for the amusement of the older crowd! Makenna was in awe from the beginning. Captivated by the music, characters, colors, and flags. During the lulls in the parade, when a gap appeared she contently snuggled up with whomever was holding her, patiently waiting for the next group to parade by. What a great parade!! So looking forward to next years!
