Long Weekend Up North

This past Friday was the second of ten furlough days that Evan has to take for work, so we made it work for us! Using a vacation day on Thursday allowed for a nice 4 day weekend up north. We left on late morning on Thursday stopping in Seattle for a lunch break and diaper change- these things go hand in hand! :) Upon arriving into Skagit County we stopped off into La Conner to meet up with Brookebird and have a taste of ice cream. After a great visit catching up with an island friend we crossed the Rainbow Bridge and onto the island. Makenna's first taste of the island came at Washington Park were we enjoyed stretching our legs. Working up an appetite we met up Grandmum (my mom) at Greek Islands Restaurant. Then it was off to bed at VQ Resort and Spa! - Thank you again Mike & Julz & Holden for putting us up!

Friday, our first full day up north, we spent lounging in the morning. Evan ran out for breakfast from the extraordinary Muffin Man. I enjoyed a tasty strawberry rhubarb muffin while Evan had a blackberry cobbler muffin. After the calorie overload we packed up the little Miss and took off to Whistle Lake for a hike. Below documents Makenna's first trail-side diaper change! She loved the 2 hour hike in the rich Anacortes forest lands.

After Whistle Lake we took off towards the downtown to wander the Art Festival and grab a bite to eat at Gere-a-deli. Before leaving the island we swung by Deception Pass State Park.

Off to Grandmum's house we went! Although the weather was not on our side, that did not stop us from having a lovely visit with my mom. I finally got to experience Bellingham's farmer's market! Definitely one of my favorites I've been to so far. After the market we took to the bay for a wet walk along the pier to Fairhaven. Thank you mom for having us up. As always it was great seeing you and the time was too short.

Makenna Update:

She has found her hands!...fingers and fist are migrating more frequently to her mouth. We have begun to work on rolling over during tummy time. Her neck muscles are only getting stronger by the day as she continues to gain more and more control of those growing cheeks. While up at mom's I did the unthinkable. I stood on a scale in order to determine Makenna's weight. We have been thinking she is 10-11 lbs just from carrying her around. Our little one has broken into the double digits! She is roughly an 11 pound-er! Makenna is also living up to her name, "One That Smiles", as she smiles and coos bringing joy into my heart.
