On Tuesday Makenna entered her 8th week and today we turned 2 months old! It proved to be quite a productive week as we made preparations for our upcoming Celebration! So looking forward to having our family and friends all together for a night to remember. Today we took a few snap shots to mark Makenna's entrance into her 2nd month. Her adorable outfit is from Brooke & Matt in Indiana. :)
On Wednesday Makenna and I met up with Grandmum in West Seattle! This was the first time mom had explored that portion of the city and as I suspected she loved it immediately. We enjoyed the beach community of Alki Beach before taking the water taxi over to downtown Seattle where Makenna experienced Pikes Market for the first time.

End of Makenna's 7th Week
Last Sunday (8.15) Evan gave Makenna her very first bottle! We were hopeful that she wouldn't have a problem adjusting to this new method of getting food and she proved once again that when it comes to food the child knows how to eat regardless of how it is delivered!
Today, while Evan washed the cars and Wayne chewed on his rawhide, Makenna and I sat out in the front yard for some tummy time. It was the perfect temperature, although the wind was something new for Makenna. Over the past couple of weeks Makenna's hairline has started to recede and her ca lick has begun to become a little unruly! As you can see she still enjoys sticking her tongue out!

Return to Paradise
The heat is upon us. Three days of mid to high 90's is a recipe for disaster when AC does not exist. So on days like these we get creative in making our own AC. Yesterday we found cooler temperatures on Mount Rainier. It has been nearly 11 months since our last visit to Paradise and it was a most memorable day (we got engaged AND pregnant). This was Makenna's first trip up the mountain and her first time in snow. Although I had been on the mountain two previous times, this was the first time it was a crystal clear day. So clear that we could actually see Mount Baker from the trail! We almost didn't make it to the park because of a horrible accident involving a car and two police motorcycles. Thankfully there were no fatalities and the officers escaped without serious injury. This held up traffic for a number of hours and thankfully we arrived with just 45 minutes to wait before it was cleared. The wait was worth it for we picked the one weekend of the year that the park waves the entrance fee! It was a beautiful day spent hiking and enjoying the cooler temperatures. It was great that Grandpa Steve & Grandma DelRae were able to join us on yet another "Oderman Family Adventure". :)

Long Weekend Up North
This past Friday was the second of ten furlough days that Evan has to take for work, so we made it work for us! Using a vacation day on Thursday allowed for a nice 4 day weekend up north. We left on late morning on Thursday stopping in Seattle for a lunch break and diaper change- these things go hand in hand! :) Upon arriving into Skagit County we stopped off into La Conner to meet up with Brookebird and have a taste of ice cream. After a great visit catching up with an island friend we crossed the Rainbow Bridge and onto the island. Makenna's first taste of the island came at Washington Park were we enjoyed stretching our legs. Working up an appetite we met up Grandmum (my mom) at Greek Islands Restaurant. Then it was off to bed at VQ Resort and Spa! - Thank you again Mike & Julz & Holden for putting us up!
Friday, our first full day up north, we spent lounging in the morning. Evan ran out for breakfast from the extraordinary Muffin Man. I enjoyed a tasty strawberry rhubarb muffin while Evan had a blackberry cobbler muffin. After the calorie overload we packed up the little Miss and took off to Whistle Lake for a hike. Below documents Makenna's first trail-side diaper change! She loved the 2 hour hike in the rich Anacortes forest lands.
After Whistle Lake we took off towards the downtown to wander the Art Festival and grab a bite to eat at Gere-a-deli. Before leaving the island we swung by Deception Pass State Park.
Off to Grandmum's house we went! Although the weather was not on our side, that did not stop us from having a lovely visit with my mom. I finally got to experience Bellingham's farmer's market! Definitely one of my favorites I've been to so far. After the market we took to the bay for a wet walk along the pier to Fairhaven. Thank you mom for having us up. As always it was great seeing you and the time was too short.
Makenna Update:
She has found her hands!...fingers and fist are migrating more frequently to her mouth. We have begun to work on rolling over during tummy time. Her neck muscles are only getting stronger by the day as she continues to gain more and more control of those growing cheeks. While up at mom's I did the unthinkable. I stood on a scale in order to determine Makenna's weight. We have been thinking she is 10-11 lbs just from carrying her around. Our little one has broken into the double digits! She is roughly an 11 pound-er! Makenna is also living up to her name, "One That Smiles", as she smiles and coos bringing joy into my heart.

Makenna's First Wedding
On Saturday one of Evan's college friends got married. This marked Makenna's first wedding! She did wonderfully and I have to say her parents didn't do a bad job either! Just as John & Kara exchanged their vows, shit literally hit the fan or in this case Evan's pants!! We were just sitting there watching their beautiful wedding unfold when a bird pooped right on the leg of Evan's pant, missing my head by a few inches. Shortly after Makenna began to stir after being sound asleep in her car seat. I quickly removed her before it became a full on wail. Crisis adverted and with Makenna calmed down we returned just as they were pronounced husband and wife. Thankfully her little peep was not noticed by anyone. It was a beautiful ceremony and wonderful to finally meet John & Kara whom I had heard so much about.
Over the past week Makenna has begun to smile and her baby "talk" has increased with more coo's and ahh's. She has found her hands while continuing to remove her binkie, although she still hasn't figured out how to put it back in her mouth! I was treated two nights in a row last week with 7 solid hours of sleep! Makenna has always been a great sleeper, logging 4-5 hours blocks during the night. Lately it seems that gas has been plaguing our wee one. We met a couple at the wedding with a 2 year old and an 8 week old that both had/have gas issues and she recommended an over the counter gas relief medicine. Last night was the first night using it and it seems to have helped as she didn't wake up screaming in pain only to have me pick her up expelling a massive "toot" from her little body.
